July 20, 2017–Trauma expert Ellen MacKenzie, PhD, was named Johns Hopkins University’s 30th Bloomberg Distinguished Professor this month. Dr. MacKenzie is a past NTI board member and currently co-investigator on an NTI-managed study of pre-hospital death.

Leading the Major Extremity Trauma and Rehabilitation Consortium (METRC), her work at the intersection of military and civilian trauma care has led to better practices for treating serious limb injuries. Throughout a career defined by a foundational study of 600 trauma survivors known as LEAP, she helped create PALS, a self-management program for amputees, NextSteps, an online program for trauma survivors, and the Trauma Survivors Network, a program with the American Trauma Society.
