Evidence to Practice Committee
CNTR’s Evidence to Practice Committee is charged with the following immediate objectives:
- For existing trauma clinical guidance (constituting materials informed by evidence, or when absent, expert clinical practice, intended to inform bedside care of the patient – e.g., protocols, algorithms, clinical practice guidelines) for the care of injury/burn, acute care surgery, and surgical critical care patients to develop a central repository, that is synergistic rather than competitive to other repositories, inclusive of pdfs and other resources (e.g., decision support tools), and can be accessed free of charge / without registration, and to establish a plan for the maintenance of and updating of this repository.
- For new guidance, to coordinate topic selection among societies to ensure no redundancy.
- For new guidance, to identify the roles of each organization, and, if and where tasks will be divided versus shared, to optimize human resource utilization and eliminate redundancy.
- To align on longer term goals to improve the effectiveness of injury/burn, acute care surgery, and surgical critical care clinical guidance (e.g., include patient voice / trauma informed care principles; grow rural, pediatric, and subspecialty authorship representation; improve relevance across resource settings; ensure AI readiness; develop active dissemination strategies and inclusive/complementary educational bundles; etc.).
The delegates commit to the following principles, which the leadership has determined will form the foundation of this collaborative:
- To be maximally inclusive – including all relevant key stakeholders.
- To engage in a consensus-driven decision-making process centered on achieving the best outcome for patients.
- To actively work to make cooperation and communication a value.
- To have a bias for action centered on doing the right thing for the patient.
- To honor the importance of the objective, and each others’ time, by ensuring that the feasibility and sustainability are centered at every step.
The leadership recognizes this initiative will require the three “T’s” and asks delegates to commit to: Talk, Tolerance, and Time.

Lack of access to timely, relevant, usable clinical guidance is contributing to preventable suffering and death after injury, and in healthcare generally.
