December 3, 2018—San Antonio, TX. The National Trauma Institute announced changes to its Board of Directors, including scheduled organizational representative turnover and the addition of a new affiliated professional group. Christopher Kang, MD, replaces Angela Gardner, MD, as the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) representative; James Ecklund, MD, replaces Alex Valadka as the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) representative; and Alice Gervasini, RN, PhD, joins as a new member affiliated with the Society of Trauma Nurses (STN)—an addition that enables NTI to bring trauma nurse representation onto the board.

“We want to thank Dr. Gardner and Dr. Valadka for their service and their contributions to the board,” said Jerry Jurkovich, MD, NTI’s Board Chair. “Maintaining representation from ACEP and AANS and inviting STN to participate helps NTI keep a broad perspective on trauma across disciplines and the full spectrum of trauma care.” As NTI embarks on creation of the National Trauma Research Action Plan, funded through a Department of Defense contract, discipline diversity on its board is particularly important.
